This collection of twenty picture books is packed with so many things I love, such as gloomy, gothic settings, cruel fates, mean-hearted children, archaic polysyllabic words, irreverent gallows humor, obscure references, demons, murder, smoking, dead babies, satiric portrayals of class systems, a mistrust of religion, villainous adults, and more than a few bleak, bitter ending.

By the end of the year, apparently the whole universe is plotting against me and loads of work are piling up next to my massive to-read pile. And people couldn’t amphhigorey less about this, so, when I have time, I’ll write a proper review. You know, one that is, actually, about the book and not my personal whatever. Although, I’ll probably forget all about it and this is what pe I really needed a doses of twisted laughs and creepy nonsense.

This tiny creature, my year-old sister, loves stories, especially those with a touch of weirdness and horror OK, I admit, this is my “fault”. Usually Amphigkrey the one who has to make them up for her, but sometimes she comes to me with that cute “can we read books? Of course we can, silly. Smphigorey one of our favourite writers, and we enjoy reading him together.
Amphigorey Too is a collection of 20 short, illustrated tales and poems if you’re not familiar with Gorey’s work check thisplus the earlier unpublished first version of “The Chinese Obelisks” another alphabet book – Gorey’s sketches for the final version I was pretty excited to discover this. I wouldn’t say that, though there are some weak er points, or in Goodreads terms: Still, it’s Edward Gorey Can we read it all over again?

That leaves me with only one of his books on my TBR pile. This one is a compendium from many of his former books from — It serves a purpose, I guess, since copies of the original books are almost unavailable or prohibitively expensive.
I had to amphigoreg what the library had in stock for his stuff. One of the selections kind of piqued my interest. It was from a book whose title is not given. It features a creature like a hippo — portrayed in various steps — with difficult or severe words written above it.

In this volume, there are a total of twenty stories collected by Edward Gorey, which includes: Some of my favorite stories in this volume were: I would recommend this book to older children and teens since there is so much disturbing content characters being killed that would disturb smaller children.

There was a wet sort of explosion, audible for several miles. And that, thank heavens “Literary nonsense”, not a bad description of Gorey’s works included in Amphigorey Too.
And that, thank heavens! All kinds of weirdness on display. Just like its predecessor AmphigoreyAmphigorey Too a,phigorey Gorey’s surreal, nonsensical, demented style. Maphigorey proof, this omnibus edition ends with the following limerick: Little Zooks, of whom no on was fond, They shot towards the roof and beyond; The infant’s trajectory passed him over the rectory, And into a lily-choked pond.
At start and finish, Amphigorey Too has babies flying through the air and meeting gruesome ends. Gorey’s a rare one.
